Good question Darla…

It depends on the type of filter. If it’s a cartridge filter, there’s nothing to worry about – shoot me an email withe the model number so I can better assist you.

Thanks!

You mention draining a pool…. Sounds OK for a Gunite/concrete pool but not so hot for a vinyl lined pool – especially if the local water table is high. Maybe you should add this comment.
Otherwisen great msuggestions.

Hi Geoge,

My mistake….I should have been more specific. A vinyl pool should not be completely drained as it may “pop”. One should backwash it down to the skimmer and replace the water over time.

All the best,

Terry

Hi Juan,

Glad to help. To start, I’d check out this post at: http://fireyourpoolguyblog.com/opening-up-a-pool-the-seasons-almost-here/

(may need to copy and paste it)

Don’t be afraid to use some granular shock in the off season (even without running the equipment) to prevent this buildup of algae taking place.

The above steps should help. Important elements here;

1. Heavily shock

2. Run the equipment 24/7 during this cleanup process.

3. Would open up aerator line(s) to help w/ water movement.

4. Backwash several times per day.

5. Once water is cloudy blue, begin adding clarifier to speed up process.

Circulation and filtration are the keys to clearing this up.

I am using baquacil in my 24,000 gal inground vinyl pool. It is about 12 years old. I saw where you recommended hth shock for a green pool or just for monthly use. Will I have a problem going to another shock and another clarifier while using the other baquacil chemicals? thank you

Yes, this can create an issue (and likely will) using a chlorine based sanitizer – you should stick with Baquacil Shock to avoid any undesired results.
