It's also a good idea to leave the pool cover on for as long as possible. This will help stop evaporation and will let you know if you have a leak.

Hi Katy,

I can understand the frustration. This is an area where it could be one of a few different variables. I would start with the most likely - and have that line blown out using CO2. A typical charge for this is around $75-100 and you'll need to specifically state what you're looking for when making calls as many service professionals don't do this type of repair. A suction side leak isolated to that one line is possible, but highly unlikely. If blowing out the line doesn't resolve it I would then replace just the o-ring inside the 3-way valve.

Hope this at least points you in the right direction.

Hi Terry, My question is about my vacuum line. I am not getting any suction. I have the Creepy Krawly vacuum. I had a pool guy come and we replaced all o-rings. The main drain/skimmer line works fine but when we turn valve to the cleaner line it just sucks air . One pool guy told me the cleaner line could be blocked with debris because there is no filter to catch leaves, acorns, etc before the pumb basket, another pool guy said he thought something was wrong with the master valve. ( one screw was stripped on valve) and 3rd pool guy said he thought there was a leak in pipe under ground. What can I do to narrow the problem down?????? Spent $$$ on 3 pool guys and still not fixed. Help, I need to clean my pool before pool season!!! Thanks

@ Renee,

Make sure all of the air is out of the vac line when you install it - simple fix. Submerse the lines, get the vac completely underwater, then suck through it to fill it with water, prior to plugging in the hose to the vac port. This way, there's only water in the line and the equipment won't lose prime. Let me know if that doesn't correct the issue.

@ Dan - this is a suction side leak (not return) so there's likely air entering the plumbing at some point between the main drain and the pump. Assuming there is a crack, it's unlikely you'd see water with this scenario. Are there any other suction lines going into the equipment?

inground pool main drain blocked and or sucking air pump wont prime on main drain but will on skimmer, it has a 3 way jandy valve which i replaced, pool doesnt seem to leak water therefore i dont suspect cracked pipe. I have ran air through the jandy valve into main drain still no luck.

Terri,
We have have had our above ground pool for three years and we have replace many things. We have last year replaced our vac. but now when we put our vac on, all the water leaves the pump, but when we take the vac off the water returns. What are we doing wrong and how do we fix it.
