Hi Donna,

As soon as you feel confident the algae is dead, it’s ok to vac. Typically 24 hours is sufficient – if you see no signs of algae and the water is cloudy, should be good to vacuum.

All the best,

Terry

Terry,
We have a very strong smell of chlorine and a clicking sound coming from a valve that opens up. Our vacum has no suction. Should we start with a backwash?

Hi Lori,

Nothing wrong with doing a backwash, however, I don’t believe that’s the source of the issue here…

What valve is “clicking”? I assume you’re referring to a 3-way Jandy of some sort?

Likely, there is air entering the system. Empty the pump pod basket, ensure the impeller to the pump is moving freely (do this with the equipment turned off).

Then, check the plumbing going into the pump – it’s likely this is where air is entering they system, but begin with the most simple items first.

All the best,

Terry

One of my customers had a pool that turned green. It tested 1,000 for phosphates so I added about 6 oz of phosphate remover and 4 chlorine tablets and let the system run for 24 hours. It cleared it up immediately. What kind of chemicals do you use?

Many times that can do the trick…lots of variables here and depends on how severe the algae is. I typically start off with a heavy dose of HTH Super Shock – first step is to eliminate any pathogens/bacteria and remove the food source of the algae…then focus on water clarity.

Thanks!

Terry, i am about to add some HTH Super Shock to my 18000 -20000 gallon in ground pool because of the green cloudyness, how much is too much, and how many bags should i use?

Hi Jared,

I just sent an email yesterday to hopefully clear the air on this – let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Terry
